Global Composites Inc. was established in 1981, to provide custom molded FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastics) to the Recreation Vehicle Industry. Initially was located in Decatur, Indiana in a 14,000 sq. ft. facility with 10 employees. In 1982 the decision was made to relocate to Elkhart, Indiana, the heart of the RV Industry. Over the next 25 years Global Composites Inc. has become one of the largest suppliers of exterior composite facia (front and rear caps) to the RV Industry. Currently we have over 200 employees and 140,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space. Global Composites Inc. is comprised of four separate divisions. The custom composite division facility is 50, 000 sq. ft. with 65 employees. The flat panel division facility is 40,000 sq. ft. with 40 employees. The pattern and mold facility is 14,000 sq. ft. with 12 employees. The reaction injection molding (RIM) facility is 36,000 sq. ft. with 15 employees.

Current capabilities include the following:

Composite part manufacturing: Fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) part sizes range from 2 to 520 sq. ft. Part thickness ranges from .125” to .25” depending on customer specifications. Manufacturing processes included open spay-up, hand lay-up, and vacuum infusion.

Composite panel manufacturing: Fiberglass reinforced polyester panel part size range from the largest panel 115” wide and 576” long. Part thickness and backer is customer specified.

RIM manufacturing: This closed molded process allows for tighter part tolerances than our open molded composite parts. Parts are molded out of raw materials that include Metton LMR* and or polyurethane. Parts produced at the facility range from automotive running boards and facia, to dunnage carriers supplied to the OEM’s.

Pattern and mold manufacturing: Patterns for composite parts, vacuum infusion, RIM, and vacuum-form plastic. Capabilities included 5-axis CNC machine, 3-axis vertical metal machining center, and 6-ft digitizing arm. Software includes SurfCam and Solid Works. Pattern size varies from 3 sq. ft. to 240 sq. ft.
